BANGALORE: Traffic was disrupted for more than six hours on Hosur Road in Koramangala and Banshankari 3rd Stage on Thursday as large number of people thronged the outlets of a shopping mall, which had announced a bumper discount sale.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East) M.A. Saleem said a posse of policemen had to be deployed on Hosur Road to regulate traffic as shoppers came on to the road following a rush at the mall.

The absence of adequate parking facility at the mall also led to chaos on the road. Following the unexpected rush, the mall downed its shutter for some time, Mr. Saleem said.

A similar situation was witnessed near the mall's other outlet in Kathrikuppe in Banashankari 3rd Stage, the police had closed the Kathrikuppe Road for traffic.

A number of vehicles was seen haphazardly parked all around the mall. The residents of adjoining areas were also put to hardship because of the haphazard parking. Vehicles were found stranded on the Banashankari Outer Ring Road following a traffic jam.

There was commotion outside both the outlets of the mall as people restlessly waited to go inside. As the outlets were packed, people were allowed inside in turns and this took some time.

Several people returned disappointed, as they could not shop because of the heavy turnout. People from places outside Bangalore too had come in large numbers in several vehicles, the police said.
