BANGALORE: All those travelling towards Mysore can straightaway avoid Kempe Gowda bus station and take their buses from the new satellite bus station that has come up on Mysore road.

The bus station has formally begun its operations with 250 KSRTC services originating there.

For the time being, however, about 250 buses still originate from Subashnagar and eventually all buses on Mysore-sector will move to Mysore road, according to KSRTC assistant traffic manager Nagaraj.

Those catching the bus from the new facility will get a discount of Rs 5 on the bus fare. This offer is for a period of three months.

The KSRTC had spent Rs 10 crore to acquire the 10-acre land on Mysore-Bangalore road. Another Rs 10 crore was spent for the construction of the three-tier satellite bus station, which includes Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus station and a bus depot.

More than 250 buses towards Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Malavalli, Kollegal, Kushalnagar and Gundalpet start from here. The KSRTC has also introduced four courtesy coaches from the main station, which ferry free of cost those willing to take their buses from the new station.

According to a KSRTC official, the KSRTC depot number one, currently located at the KBS will be shifted to one of the portions at the new facility earmarked to accommodate the depot.

The existing depot number one thus vacated will be used for keeping mini KSRTC buses. The BMTC bus stops at Bapujinagar and Hosaguddadahalli are shifted to the new terminus.

More than 800 BMTC buses are operating to all parts of the City.
