BANGALORE: After a mix of chill weather and drizzle, clear skies are expected to show up over Bangalore from Monday evening.

According to weather experts cyclone Fanoos has weakened and has crossed the Tamil Nadu coast and entered the peninsula due to which heavy rains are expected at the tip of South India (Kanyakumari) and southern Kerala.

Why is it drizzling in the December, citizens have been wondering. Bangalore city receives rains whenever the cluster of heavy clouds pass, mainly because it is on a high altitude.

Bangalore is situated 3,300 feet above mean sea level and the winds which blow from the North East region are disturbed and help the clouds to precipitate.

“There is tremendous high pressure prevailing due to which the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing winter and Southern Hemisphere is basking in summer sunshine.

Since there is a high in temperature, there will be low pressure. This difference in the temperature initiates the movement of the air, with which the wind blows from the Northern to the Southern hemisphere,” Dr Rajegowda, professor of agrometrology, GKVK, told this website's newspaper.

Significantly, the Asian countries lying on the Northern Hemisphere will undergo this activity. Heavy winds blow from China and the erstwhile USSR towards Indian Ocean as a normal tendency known as the North East Monsoon.

The weather experts have observed that the clouds are generated at the Northern Pacific and Southern Pacific oceans moving towards west along the Equator, but not on the longitude causing more density of clouds.

“According to recent satellite pictures, the series of clouds are prevailing on the Equator moving towards West. Whenever the pressure decreases on the normal part of Equator, they turn right and enter the Bay of Bengal.

These clouds may turn into cyclones depending on the pressure gradient development. We can expect two to three cyclones till end of December,” Rajegowda added.
