BANGALORE: In a year's time, Bangalore will be just a stone's throw away from a grand film city.
To be built on a sprawling 58-acre plot in Bidadi Industrial Area, the "Innovative Film City" will house 25 mega attractions, including a film studio, a film institute, mock sets, a 21-screen multiplex theatre, the country's largest amphitheatre and much more.
With a project cost of over Rs. 150 crores, the film city will be launched in December next year. Inaugurating a presentation of the grand film city plan, Tourism Minister D.T. Jayakumar felt it would further boost tourism in the State.
Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Studios Sharavan Prasad said the film city would be set up aside a picturesque lush green backdrop and a natural lake situated on the Bangalore-Mysore highway. Among the mega attractions would be a film studio, a film institute, mock sets, residential complex, IT parks, multiplex theatre, the country's largest amphitheatre with a seating capacity of over 15,000 people and amusement facilities such as Jurassic park, funplex, go karting, aqua kingdom and snowland for children.
Kannada actor and producer `Rockline' Venkatesh, who is one of the promoters of the film city, said it would have a world-class technological centre complete with the latest in equipment, facilities and resources. The film city would also function as an independent production house to undertake commercial production of both large and small screen films of various genres and language, he said.
The film city intended to produce at least 10 films a year, making in-house production one of its most valued assets, he said.
Kannada film industry personalities such as Parvathamma Rajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar, Ramesh, and Lok Sabha member and actor Ambarish were present on the occasion.
