The Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed a plea against shifting of slaughter houses to the outskirts of Bangalore from the existing locations within the city.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice B Padmaraj and Justice V Jagannathan rejected the plea by Jamat-U-Quaresh Beef Merchants’ Charitable Trust and others. The petitioners had requested the court to review its order passed in 2002 directing the authorities to shift slaughter houses to the outskirts of the city

Dismissing the plea, the Court said that the petitioners have filed the petition, three years after the order, only with an oblique motive to defeat the public cause.

The High Court, while dealing with a public interest litigation which had complained about problems faced by residents due to location of slaughter houses in the residential localities, had on August 13, 2002 issued directions to shift them to the city outskirts.
