Raid solves mystery behind bad roads

Raid solves mystery behind bad roads
The Times of India

Bangalore: Well, the ‘hole’ mystery of cracking up of refilled potholes overnight seems to have revealed. According to the Lok Ayukta officials, who conducted inspection on BMP’s road restoration works, it is due to the temperature of asphalt mix, the key ingredient, being lower than the norms prescribed by engineers.

The surprise inspection, led by Lok Ayukta Justice N Venkatachala, was conducted at Church Street, Shivajinagar bus station and Hostel Road late on Friday night. During the raid, it was discovered that the asphalt which should be at a minimum temperature of 110 degree at the time of filling, was only 70 degrees.

According to Lok Ayukta sources, the asphalt mixing is done at Bidadi and transported in open containers. The mix should have been covered with tarpaulin sheets to maintain temperature.
