In a drive to motivate authorities concerned and citizens to become more responsible about their surroundings, the Kumara Park West Residents’ Welfare Association has organised a Cleanliness Week where residents are seriously propagating door-to-door garbage collection.

With around 80 percent of residents convinced of the significance of this exercise, the Association is all set to declare itself a ‘No Bin’ area.

“It has taken more than two years to attain this stage since the inception of the Swacha Bangalore” said N S Ramakanth, President of the Association.

He added that it was difficult to convince all residents not to litter their surroundings by dumping garbage.

The Association that has been holding rallys and conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns, distributed blankets and lunch to around 70 pourakarmikas of 27 D and 77 E blocks of the ward on Saturday.

Some do’s and don’ts

Segregate and store wet waste separately, handover segregated, stored wet and dry waste to separate buckets of push carts to support composting and recycling, do not throw waste in vacant sites, drains and other places, say no to thin plastic carry bags; these are a few messages that the members of the Association are trying to spread in their ward for a clean and green area to live in.
