Rs 58 lakh for park, but...

Rs 58 lakh for park, but...
The Times of India

Bangalore: Here’s another instance of gross misuse of tax-payers’ money, as alleged by the BJP.

Development of parks at Seshadripuram has become something of a joke — Rs 58 lakh is the present budgetary allocation for Nehru Park, a carry-over from the previous year, and yet the park is incomplete, the party maintained.

At the Risaldar Street Park, some Rs 5 lakh is being spent on maintaining a water fountain whereas people living in the area complain of scarce water supply.

Like in the case of ‘development’ work at Sankey Tank, BJP members cited instances where the same work was taken up repeatedly at different parks in the area. The members alleged that the issue of parks was being misused by no less than the horticulture committee chairperson Vasantha Kumari, who is also corporator of Gandhinagar area. They cited the examples of Bhasyam Park Nursery, Chikka Lalbagh park where Rs 19 lakh has been provided for development though it has been agreed by various committees that no development work is possible there.

BJP members demanded a thorough probe into the development works undertaken by the horticulture department in the past two years, as also revision of budgetary allocations made to the department.
