A year of chaos, traffic diversions and snarls await commuters bound towards South Bangalore. Come December, work on two grade separators - at Tagore Circle and R V Teachers’ College - will begin.

The construction of the two underpasses, to be taken up by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike at a cost of Rs 16 crore each, is expected to be completed in 12 months.

The Tagore Circle underpass will assist traffic movement in the north-south direction, in line with the Ramakrishna Circle and National College grade separators. It will also smoothen traffic leading to NH 209 (Kanakpura Road) on one end, and the K R Market on the other.

The underpass planned outside R V Teachers’ College is located at the intersection between the North-South corridor and East-West corridor, guiding traffic movement towards Silk Board Junction flyover and Electronic City on one side, and towards Minerva Circle and Hudson Road on the other.

A stretch of 30 metres will be covered in each of the flyovers, revealed R S Pradeep, Senior Design Engineer of Stup Consultants, consultants for the project. “The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has completed the tendering process for both the grade separators, and the work of fixing agencies is currently under process,” he added.
