BDA comes to the rescue

BDA comes to the rescue
Vijay Times

RESIDENTS of the Bommanahalli and Byatarayanapura City Municipal Councils (CMCs) will get respite from travelling on potholed and bumpy roads as the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has come forward to develop these roads in the two CMCs.

The recent torrential rains that lashed the City had worsened the conditions of these roads which were already pathetic.

Despite repeated complaints by the residents to the authorities concerned, these roads were neglected. It may be recalled that CMCs had claimed that the roads were neglected due to shortage of funds.

As a "friendly gesture", the BDA has come forward to help the two CMCs in providing good roads to the citizens.

The BDA would invite tenders for developing 11 km of roads in Bommanahalli and 16 km in Byatarayanapura on Nov 23. The road works in both the CMCs are estimated to cost Rs 55 crore.

"In Bommanahalli, we will take up work on two roads-- the road between Kothanur reservoir and Puttenahalli, and a cross road With regard to Byatarayanapura, all three major roads coming within the CMC limits will be developed. The entire cost will be borne by us," BDA Commissioner M N Vidyashankar told BVT .

The road works under the two CMCs would be completed by June 2006 and the same would be maintained by the contractor , who executes the work, for three years as per the terms and conditions of the tender he added.

In addition, the BDA would also take up asphalting and metalling of 26 km of roads at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore in Jnanabharathi layout, which covers Nagadevanahalli and Valagerahalli. Along with road works, the BDA would also fund the water supply project in the 2nd and 3rd blocks of V alagerahalli at a cost of Rs 27 lakh.

M OBILE FL YOVERS IN CITY

For the first time, the BDA would invite tenders based on ’Request for Proposal’ next week t take up construction of two mobile flyovers in the City .

The flyovers are planned at the Shantala Silks junction in Majestic, which connects Cottonpet Road, T ankbund Road and Goodshed Road, and at T rinity Circle, connecting the Ulsoor and Airport Road.

"U nder the ’Request for Proposal’ condition, interested parties, who meet the pre-qualifications mentioned in the tender , can participate. As this will be a first of its kind venture on bot sides, we expect more companies to participate. The project will incorporate the specifications of hi-tech German technology ," Vidyashankar said.

The concept of mobile flyovers would help avoid inconvenience to road users and could be executed in a short span of time. This technology would require no digging as the steel fabricated structures would be directly erected on the ground and would be maintenance-free for 50 years. At a later stage, structures could be shifted to another place found not suitable, he explained.

Residents of HSR layout can heave a sigh of relie during the next monsoon. Reason: The Bangalo Development Authority (BDA) will construct si drains and inlets to lead the water from l tanks in and around HSR layout to the storm water drain (SWD) next to Agara that connects Bellandur lake.

It may be recalled that water from six tan namely Doddabegur , Chikkabegur , Singasandra Mangammanapalya, Madivala and Puttenahalli over flowed during the recent rain. The enti out was marooned, causing inconvenience to t residents.

"The BDA has begun a field survey of the existing drains and inlets in the entire area. drains will be constructed in such a way that even if water , twice the capacity of what over flowed ing the recent rain, is discharged, there w over flow . The work will be complete before next year ," Vidyashankar said.
