Bangalore: They have asked for time and they are getting it. The Koramangala building violators can either remove the deviations on their own within the deadline, or the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will do it for them.

The BMP has decided to list out the percentage of violations in each of the 87 buildings petitioned before the high court, give some time to the owners and then take up the dismantling work.

The decision was taken at a meeting of engineers convened by BMP commissioner K Jothiramalingam on Thursday where engineers have been asked to identify the highest percentage of deviations and commence operations on such buildings.

From next week, the BMP will start informing the owners about the percentage of violations in their properties, give them time to remove it on their own and after the deadline, will swing into action and take up the dismantling work.

“A few owners who have violated the change of land use have sought some time for taking corrective steps. They have informed that they will obtain the change of land use from the existing residential to commercial. All these cases will be looked into,’’ officials informed.

The eight petitioners who had brought the deviations to the notice of the HC, have withdrawn their names from the petitions.

Story so far
Eight residents from Koramangala filed PIL about large-scale violations regarding 87 buildings.
As per HC directions, BMP surveyed the buildings and confirmed the violations. HC ordered action.
BMP demolished a few violated buildings but had to stop the operations due to residents’ protest.
Petitioners withdraw their names from the PIL due to threat.
