BANGALORE: Once the clock passes 9.30 pm, drivers and riders ask in a Shakesperean tone - ‘‘What is in a colour?’’

The scene on city roads change and many motorists forget that there are red lights and jump the signals.

This is an usual scene that a person can notice at junctions like Hudson Circle, CMH Road, Mekhri circle flyover junction, South End Circle and Diary Circle.

Traffic experts told this website’s newspaper that ‘yuppies’ were impatient and considered signals at late hours to be an impediment to their daily return journey to home.

‘‘Motorists who were caught in the act substantiate their stand by saying that there were too many signals”.

“They also complain that a red signal showed up in roads where there was no traffic,’’ they said.

City DCP-Traffic (East) Saleem said that people need not wait for long, as in the morning.

‘‘Each signal’s time span is reduced to half of that in the day, between 9 PM to 11 PM”.

“From 11 PM to 6 AM the signals start blinking leaving road use to the discretion of travellers, except at six points in the Central Area where signals run even during the night at a quarterly time span’’ - he said.

But, even this short signal span turns people intolerant at that hour and they resort to the risk of jumping these signals.

Prashant Reddy, a BSNL employee says, ‘‘It’s normal tendency at that hour because we are desperate to reach homes after a long day at work”.

“So, many jump signals though there is an element of risk. A better system has to evolve, probably such as posting a cop at such junctions or bringing in sensor regulated mechanisms which can allow vehicular movement suitable to that hour.’’

Dr Amit Kukke, a dentist said - ‘‘It’s annoying that we have to wait for a colour to change even when there are no vehicles coming from the opposite road. It’s time that traffic management is done with a practical approach.’’

well its rite that every one should follow the traffic rules but in some cases like in west of cord road the road is straight and its broad but they are doing flyover which is not necessary and the roads are closed from long time, every one has to take deviation if they want to reach vijayanagar
