Wettest month in 49 years

CITY GETS 1178.4 MM RAINFALL IN 2005
HSR residents heave a sigh of relief

The incessant rain continuing to lash the City , a 49-year-old record for the heaviest rainfall in a year was broken on W ednesday .

The City has recorded 1178.4 mm rainfall since May 2005. It was in 1956 that the City had received the heaviest rainfall. On W ednesday , the City recorded 2.5 mm of rain.

Meanwhile, three persons were injured while a autorickshaw and a twowheeler were damaged in the rain. The incident happened behind Vijaya T alkies in Byatarayanapura.

U sually , the City receives an average of 180 mm of rainfall for the month of October but as on Oct 18 the city has already received 348 mm. Several lakes in the City have been flooded inundating houses and throwing normal life out of gear . V ehicular traffic was also hit badly . T raffic jams were reported on some of the major roads like M G Road, Magadi Road, Brigade, Residency , Cubbon Road, K G Road, Rajbhavan Road, Highgrounds Road and A venue Road.

According to the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) control room, water inundated both the entrances of

RESIDENTS of HSR layout, who had to put up with two feet of water since Monday evening, can now heave a sigh of relief.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), which swung into action, cleared the water third and the fifth sectors on W ednesday .

A meeting was convened by Principal Secretary Shamim Banu, which was attended by officials of the BDA and City Municipal Coun (CMC) Commissioner Udayshankar , to chalk out plan to avoid such incidents of flooding in future The CMC officials have been directed to desilt th drains to enable water to flow in a free present, no water is flowing through the drain in 9th sector . If the drains are desilted, be discharged through different channels, a engineer said.

T alking to BVT , another BDA engineer , Hir said the HSR area was inundated as a resul Begur lake overflowing. The lake overflowed heavy rains lashed the city on T uesday night.

BDA officials said the water entered the HSR Layout after a portion of Magamanapalya road was cut to make way for overflowing water from the Begur tank.

The water from the Begur tank had entered 750 houses in HSR sectors VI and VII and Parangipalya on T uesday morning. As a result, se al residents complained of short circuit in homes.
