Premji now wants infrastructure talks
The Times of India
Bangalore: Just last month he remarked he felt home at Pune since the condition of roads there was as pathetic as those in Bangalore. He was the first IT CEO who spoke on infrastructure three years ago and threatened a dharna if the government didn’t improve city roads.
Today, three days after JD(S) president H D Deve Gowda distinguished between Infosys and Wipro, Azim Premji, Wipro chairman, seems to be keen on logging on to the government. He said on Wednesday: “The issue could be sorted out by talking to government.” He said infrastructure issue “is being taken out of proportion and too much is being read into headlines. Some statements could not serve any constructive purpose.”
Synergy is the word. R K Misra, V-P, Flextronics, and also member of the empowered committee on infrastructure and traffic, believes working with government has resulted in progress on some road projects. “I find the government extremely proactive and supportive. But you see no improvement on sectors like Sarjapur Road because there is no tangible private participation.”
