Officials, IT heads will meet today

Bangalore: The IT stick has the state government scrambling. Facing severe flak from the IT sector on Bangalore’s poor infrastructure, the government has convened a meeting on Thursday of the empowered committee on Bangalore infrastructure — set up in January — to thrash out the immediate problems.

The meeting, to be chaired by chief secretary B K Das, will be attended by 49 members and invitees, including industry bigwigs. All civic stake-holders, Bob Hoekstra of Philips Software, Som Mittal of Hewlett-Packard, T V Mohandas Pai of Infosys and R K Mishra of Flextronics India will participate.

Anant Koppar, president, Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce, whose recent announcement of a boycott of Bangalore IT.in precipitated the latest debate on city infrastructure, has been invited to the meeting. The industry representatives on the committee have invited Confederation of Indian Industry president Daljit Mirchandani.

Flextronics’ R K Mishra said industry men will meet prior to the official meet to discuss how to approach the issue.

As a precursor, Mishra and industry representatives held a meeting with infrastructure secretary Vinay Kumar, BDA commissioner N Vidyashankar and others to discuss the road project from HAL airport to Brookefields.
