Two months after work kicked off officially at the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) site in Devanahalli, administrators, airport promoters and local bodies on Monday came together for a review meeting on the project.

Infrastructure Secretary Vinay Kumar said the meeting identified initial problems in the project and mooted solutions for the same. “Rehabilitation of people staying in surrounding areas was discussed as well.

The implementation phase of the project has started and this is the right time to identify difficulties,” he said.

Work on the airport had started on July 2 and BIAL is expected to get the first flight out by April 2, 2008.

BIAL submits proposal

The BIAL has submitted a proposal for linking the international airport, which is under construction at Devanahalli, with the Cantonment Railway Station through a new railway line.

Industries Minister P G R Sindhia told mediapersons that the BIAL has also given a proposal to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for construction of a flyover to connect the Devanahalli Airport with the Bangalore-Hyderabad National Highway.
