A part of Old Madras Road in front of the BMTC depot in Indiranagar caved in following a heavy gush of water from a nearby lake on Tuesday morning. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike was yet to receive a complaint in this regard, when Deccan Herald called its control rooms for details in the evening.

The BMP officials said this was the second time in the past one year that the road had sunk in. The compound wall which is about 20 ft away from the road collapsed following heavy rain during the past few days letting out a strong current of water.

The lake water joins the storm water drain closeby and also floods the houses in the Laxmipura area, BMP staff said.

Indiranagar traffic police said barricades had been installed around the pit on the road, for the safety of the commuters.
