Govt. offices being shifted to Vikasa Soudha

BANGALORE: Some government departments are being shifted to the Vikasa Soudha four years after the foundation stone of the building was laid by the then Chief Minister S.M. Krishna.

The Vikasa Soudha, conceived as the "South Block" or annexe of the Legislature and Government Secretariat Complex, Vidhana Soudha, has been constructed, and over the past few days, some departments, including the Department of Medical Education, have been shifted.

The Vikasa Soudha was initially estimated to cost Rs. 77 crores. It was inaugurated on February 5, 2004 by Governor T.N. Chaturvedi a few weeks before the elections. The project has overshot the budget and the deadline, and the Government has spent Rs. 100 crores. The building is ergonomically designed and has a water harvesting system.
