Solution soon for JP Nagar residents
Solution soon for JP Nagar residents

It may be just a beginning, but an end seems to be in the offing for the rain-wrought woes of Puttenahalli-JP Nagar residents under the Bommanahalli CMC limits. The excess water flowing from the Puttenahalli lake will be drained out through a diversion channel into a storm water drain of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.
A decision to the effect was reportedly taken on Tuesday following a meeting between officials of the Urban Development Department, director of Municipal Administration and Bangalore where Ms Shameen Banu the Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department was also in attendance.
Sources said that the said diversion drain will carry the overflowing water of the Puttenahalli Lake into a secondary drain of the Koramangala Valley SWD. The secondary drain leads to the Madivala Lake, sources said explaining that the process will be very similar to the work the BMP has undertaken at Murugeshpalya, near the airport.
Expert sources noted that the Puttenahalli lake is left with neither any traceable rajakaluves (outlets) nor any physically identifiable balancing reservoirs. The low-lying layouts in JP Nagar V Phase have therefore been acting as the balancing factor for the gushing waters.
When contacted Bommanahalli CMC Commissioner Udayashankar said that the CMC did not keep details of the lake’s inflow and outflow channels.
“This lake is directly under the authority of the Lake Development Authority, we do not have its details,” he said.
Mr Sujith a resident, in the area told Deccan Herald that the official machinery has geared up after the chief minister’s visit on Monday.
