Elaborate arrangements for pollution-free immersion

The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and Bangalore Mahanagara Palike are pulling out all stops to protect lakes and other water bodies in the City from pollution due to the immersion of painted Ganesha idols, high on lead.

The BMP has made elaborate arrangements or idol immersion in the form of Kalyanis at the lakes and mobile immersion tanks at nine designated areas. The immersion programme which will begin from Wednesday evening, will be done under the supervision of the BMP staff and the police. Barricades will be erected for smooth movement of devotees, along with well-guarded entry and exit points.

Designated entry points

Devotees can enter Sankey Tank from the main entrance gate at Sadashivnagar, Ulsoor lake from the gate opposite to RBANMS College and Yediyur lake from 22nd Cross, 6th Block, Jayanagar.

As for the mobile tanks, they will be in place far away from the lakes.

BDA’s arrangements

The BDA will station decorated immersion tanks filled with water at the entrance of Lalbagh, Basavanagudi gate from the evening of September 7, for a week. BDA officials will be posted at the location for assistance.

The mobile tanks organised by the KSPCB will be available on September 7 between 3 pm and 10 pm at the following areas: Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station (3 pm and 7 pm); Mahadevapura Police Station (7 pm and 10 pm); Malleswaram Police Station (3 pm and 7 pm); Yeshwanthpur Police Station (7 pm and 10 pm); Hanumanthnagar Police Station (3 pm and 7 pm); Jayanagar 4th Block Police Station (7 pm and 10 pm); Rajarajeshwarinagar Complex (3 pm and 7 pm) and Rajarajeshwari Temple (7 pm and 10 pm.)

HIGHLIGHTS

Special boats have been arranged for emergency.

Immersions are permitted till 10 pm.

Devotees may drop garlands and flowers in designated bins.

Devotees not allowed to immerse idols personally at Ulsoor lake,

special cranes will have to be used

Idols more than 5.5 feet tall not allowed for immersion at Sankey Tank.

Only idols less than 1.5 feet may be immersed in mobile tanks.
