‘Roads don’t last even a season’: HC

‘Roads don’t last even a season’

Vijay Times News

Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday expressed anguish at the appalling condition of roads in the City and observed the roads do not last "even a season."
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice N K Sodhi and Justice S Abdul Nazeer made the observation while endorsing a suggestion made by the state government for having a supervisory committee to monitor the quality of roads in the City.

The court also said the committee shall comprise public-spirited persons and a report shall be submitted once in three months to the court. It also posed a question to the officers of Bangalore City Corporation, "Do you need a direction from this court to even improve the condition of roads."

The court was hearing a petition filed by A V Amarnathan seeking directions to the BCC to improve the condition of roads in the City.

On a war-footing: The BCC told the court that it had initially given the work contract for laying roads to private agencies. However, due to sub-standard work, they decided to take it upon itself to main roads in the City. "We are now on the job on a war-footing," it submitted.
