BANGALORE: Mayor R. Narayanaswamy on Tuesday offered to bear the cost of the statue of Swami Vivekananda to be installed by the Ramaksirhna Mutt on Vivekananda Road in one of the islands of the Ulsoor Lake.

The Mayor told presspersons after inspecting the site at Ulsoor Lake for the statue installation that the BMP Council's decision to install the statue was delayed because of lake restoration work. A 13-feet high statue of Swami Vivekananda, sculpted by Paul and Sons, Kolkatta, will be transported to Bangalore soon. The Mayor said he will bear the cost of Rs. 13.10 lakhs, which includes transportation and installation cost.

Later, the Mayor visited the Ramakrishna Math and listened to a discourse. Opposition Leader in BMP Council B.R. Nanjundappa, Ulsoor corporator M. Saravana, Ramakrishna Math president Swami Veeta Bhayananda, and BMP Joint Commissioner (East) N. Jayaram accompanied the Mayor.
