BJP protests against alleged irregularities

BANGALORE: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha members on Tuesday protested against Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) for alleged irregularities in the execution of the second phase of Sankey Tank restoration.

The BMP, which spent over Rs. 4 crores on restoring the tank last year, dismantled the 1,700-metre pathway around the tank. Although the same cobblestones will be re-used, the exercise will cost Rs. 35 lakhs.

The BJP activists said the officials of the Engineering Cell of the civic body have justified the project on the ground that it has been taken up to increase the tank bund height by one metre and thereby extending the areas of the water body. The tank can now store more water. The BJP members refuted this by stating that the increase in the tank bund height may not really extend the water body.

The BJP activists hit out at the recent statement of Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh in the Legislative Assembly.
