Bangalore: With more vehicles found violating norms over air and noise pollution and non-payment of taxes in the City, the Transport Department has decided to launch a special drive.

The Transport Department told Vijay Times the second such drive will be held from August 3 to 12, for which they will draw additional staff from different districts and form 10-member squads. The department is forced to launch such drives following detection of a number of vehicles not adhering to rules in the first drive held from July 20 to 29.

Transport Department Commissioner Om Prakash said that in the first drive, the Department had booked 2,083 vehicles for various violations and seized 47 of them and collected Rs 3 lakh as fine and Rs 9 lakh as tax. It booked cases against 710 and 807 for air and noise pollution respectively.

He said following a number of complaints from the public against auto drivers for excess fares, the department recently launched a drive in association with the Legal Metrology Department, in which it booked cases against 22 autos for defective meters and 117 against non-verification and non-stamping of fare meters.
