The Bowring, Lady Curzon and Victoria hospitals will be remodelled at a cost of Rs 121 crore.
The state government is planning to set up a new super speciality hospital with an attached government medical college in Bangalore at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
The government has identified 50 acres of land near the Leprosy Hospital on Magadi Road for the proposed 750-bed super speciality hospital and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science has already volunteered to provide Rs 75 crore for the project, Medical Education Secretary D V Prasad announced on Monday.
He was speaking at a function organised by the medical education and public works departments to acquaint senior government officials regarding various developmental works taken up jointly by the two departments. Mr Prasad said that a new government medical college will be attached to the super speciality hospital and will be set up at a cost of Rs 25 crore. The new college is in addition to the proposed five medical colleges in Hassan, Mandya, Raichur, Bidar and Belgaum.
Remodelling
Medical Education Minister Iqbal Ansari said the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals and the Victoria Hospital will soon be remodelled with additional facilities at a cost of Rs 121 crore.
According to the master plan presented during the function, new inpatient and outpatient blocks (eight floors each), a new nursing school and hostel building, a PG hostel building, a new auditorium, residential quarters for doctors and nurses will be added to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospitals in two phases at a cost of Rs 73 crore.
The master plan for Victoria Hospital includes construction of two new blocks to accommodate 400 patients, a 300-bed new casualty, trauma, emergency block, construction of additional floors to ENT and retina blocks, additional floors to PG, UG, nursing students hostels. The plan also includes construction of new nurses quarters, an indoor stadium at Bangalore Medical College at a cost of Rs 48 crore.
In addition, augmentation of basic amenities like water, toilets, effluent treatment plants, roads, vehicle parking, street lights will be taken up in all the hospitals. KPCL and KPTCL Employees Association have donated Rs 4.5 crore and Rs 8 crore respectively for the hospital improvement programme.
