Ring Road has changed the face of this area

Ring Road has changed the face of this area
The Times of India

Bangalore: An inconspicuous Kamakya tent house was the only landmark in this Kattriguppe village five to ten years ago. Now it is a bustling commercial hub.

Thanks to the Ring Road connecting Bann e r g h at t a Road and Mysore Road running via J.P. Nagar, Padmanabhanagar and Banashankari III stage, the area has seen a sudden spurt in development.

Then: Kamakya tent house situated on the Ring Road used to be the last bus stop for passengers travelling towards Kattriguppe and Mysore Bank colony.

There were no roads here and access to inner areas meant negotiating huge ditches.
Hiring an autorickshaw to the interior residential bylanes would be next to impossible.

The State Bank of Mysore along with a few sweetmeat shops, provision stores, medical shops, vegetable shacks and garment outlets formed the small shopping arena. Now: The Ring Road which cuts through the area has changed the face of Banashankari. Though the roads in the residential bylanes cannot be compared to the Ring Road, they are far better than what they were a decade ago.
Bearing a semblance to the activities on Marathahalli Ring Road, this stretch too is dotted with lifestyle shops, food marts and branded garment showrooms, most of which are factory outlets.

Banashankari, which was earlier termed one of the most traditional and conservative areas in the city, has opened up to the changing world. The darshanis have paved way to North Indian and continental cuisine. Coffee joints have become cool cafes. In the place of the age-old Iyengar bakeries are trendy cake shops. Neighbourhood parks have sprung up in every locality making the area greener.
The real estate boom has also hit BSK after the formation of the Ring Road. The area where people would have earlier dreaded to buy plots in, suddenly has land prices soaring.

However, the centre of attraction in BSK still remains the BDA complex which is the favourite hangout for teenagers.
The area has its share of problems. Some of the localities which were newly added to the BCC’s jurisdiction lack basic civic amenities.
While parts of BSK enjoy good, wide roads, regular water supply, street lights, some areas are are deprived of all the above. The inner lanes still have kutcha roads, the drainage system is bad and water supply is irregular.
