Vignananagar residents repeat Rasta Roko

Residents stage raska-roko
Deccan Herald

Residents of Vignananagar and adjoining areas staged a rasta-roko on Thursday demanding that authorities improve the condition of roads in their respective areas. This is the second such protest by the residents of Vignananagar, Basavanagar, Rameshnagar and Ramaiah Reddy Layout in the last 20 days.

Residents converged at the Vignananagar Road - Kaggadasapura Road Junction around 9 am and blocked the road connecting Old Madras Road and Airport Road for nearly three hours to condemn the apathy of the officials towards solving their problems. Even commercial establishments in the area downed shutters as a mark of protest.

“The roads are ridden with potholes and whenever it rains, the slush makes it difficult for us to walk or drive on the roads,” Mr Devaraj, a resident said. “Though we have submitted several representations to the K R Puram CMC and the public works department, they have turned a blind eye,” he added.

The residents said, “When we staged a demonstration a fortnight ago, the CMC Commissioner T Rajanna visited the spot and assured us that the road repair works would begin within two days. Nearly 20 days have passed now, but nothing has happened.”

Vignananagar is in the HAL area, somewhere near C V Raman Nagar and Kaggadasapura.
