Bangalore: Lazy Sunday turned out to be a day of brisk work for residents of J.P. Nagar 7th Phase. Galvanised by 83-year-old V. Parthasarathy, a former chief engineer with the Railways, they filled up potholes in their area.

“The stretch between Ring Road and Kothanur was unbearable. Some potholes were as deep as 2 feet. It was a nightmare for motorists. School buses have got stuck in the potholes.” The citizens approached the residents of Brigade Millennium apartments to see if some work could be done on the roads. But the potholes just remained. Then Parthasarathy approached one of the contractors and got the job done. “It cost me Rs 2,500. When other residents saw me doing this, they offered to share the expenses,” he said.

Bangalore City Corporation officials claim the area does not come under the purview of the corporation but under the Bommanahalli CMC.
