BANGALORE: It's the time of the year when motorists seek shelter from heavy rains under flyovers and overbridges. But here is one overbridge that motorists are wary to stop at.
The railway overbridge near Vasanthnagar, which was inaugurated just a few years ago, continues to leak water even two days after the rain.
While the BBMP has contributed its share for the construction of the bridge, it is alleged that two magic boxes were not joined properly while constructing the overbridge.
"I am a regular user of this road and it is nauseating when the water trickles from the ceiling. The leaking rain water may be mistaken as toilet water from the railway coach,'' said a commuter Amanullah Khan of Shivajinagar.
Meanwhile, the BBMP that has spent money to paint the walls of the magic box and has put up sign boards to keep the surroundings clean, has done nothing to stop the seepage. Gopalaswamy, Chief Engineer (Roads) BBMP said, "We have nothing to do with the maintenance of the railway overbridge. It is the responsibility of railways to maintain the overbridge. We have also written a letter to the railways about the problem.''
However, Haribabu, Senior Executive Engineer, South Western Railways has denied receiving any letter from the BBMP on the issue. He said, "Recently, we met the BBMP officials and they have not brought this to our notice. We will immediately inspect the spot.''
Akhil Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway has said that he had no idea where this railway overbridge existed. He said, "I will ask my officials to look into the matter''.
