BMTC makes passes at Bangalore

Civic transport body hopes to attract more customers with its new categories of bus passes

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has added new categories to the existing types of passes for its buses to suit varied commuter needs. The transport undertaking has also done away with BMTC photo-identity cards.

Identity cards issued by the BMTC for Rs 100 and used for validating Vajra and Vayu Vajra passes under the old system have been scrapped.

Commuters can now establish their identity by producing voter's ID, passport or employee ID, if it has been is issued by a public authority.


People travelling in BMTC buses on the Bus Day that was organised by the transport body last month.


A new type of pass named friendly pass is being made available for Rs 1,300 a month. Those who already possess a BMTC ID, passes will continue to get monthly passes for Rs 1,250.

Vajra monthly passes will be valid for travel on all services except Vayu vajras (airport service) and Bangalore Rounds.

The BMTC will also introduce Vajra student passes at a promotional rate of Rs 900 per month on Vajra buses.

A student ID is enough to validate a Vajra student pass, which will be valid on all services except Vayu vajra and Bangalore rounds.

The third type of pass the A/c Suvarna day pass is priced at Rs 50 per day. The pass will be valid for travel on all services except Vajra, Vayu vajra and Bangalore rounds.
