BANGALORE: As part of its anti-encroachment drive, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) demolished about 70 structures that had encroached upon a 15 feet wide 'rajakaluve' (primary canal) in Sultanpet on Wednesday morning.
The BBMP started the operation at 6 am and demolished the structures which had encroached upon the 'rajakaluve' near Kashi Vishwanath temple on OTC road. The drive went on till the afternoon.
The shops in the area used to flood whenever there was a downpour as the drain was encroached upon and there was no place for rain water to flow.
The encroaching portions of the structures were demolished, informed a BBMP official. The drive was carried out in co-ordination with the local police.
