More BMTC buses for Electronics City
These extra buses from different parts of the city could be a win-win situation for techies and companies faced with a parking crunch

Travelling to Electronics City could soon be less stressful for techies, with Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) planning to introduce more buses from different parts of the city. The move will also go a long way in decongesting city traffic.
Infosys officials had recently requested BMTC to operate more buses from different parts of the city for the convenience of techies. BMTC plans to introduce more buses for Electronics City from different parts of the city as well as a feeder service with 20 buses on Sarjapur Road, Kanakapura Road, Bannerghatta Road and Begur road.
It is estimated that city techies account for the movement of around 35,000 cars and an equal number of two-wheelers towards Electronics City daily. Only a few companies have sufficient parking space for all their employees.
Aruna Newton, an employee of Infosys and secretary of the Electronics City Industries Association, said,”More and more people working in Electronics City will shift to public transport when it is dependable, reliable and convenient. To have flexible options for commuters, BMTC will operate Volvo, semi-low floor and other buses with a good frequency on roads connecting to Electronics City.” She added that around 19,000 employees of Infosys have already started using BMTC buses for commuting.
BMTC’s 350-odd Volvo buses have helped do their bit in decongesting city traffic. According to a BMTC survey, around 12,000 cars have gone off the roads after the Volvos came into service. A BMTC official said,”Everyday, Volvo buses operating to BIAL carry 6,000 to 7,000 passengers. It means our operation has led to a reduction in the same number of private vehicles to and from the airport.”
