BOMMANAHALLI RESIDENTS SUFFER DUE TO LACK OF BASIC AMENITIES Almost every major builder has either completed an apartment complex or has one in progress here. But ask the people what they think of living in Bommanahalli and they point accusing fingers at the BBMP
The skyline in Bommanahalli, with its swanky buildings and skyscrapers , appears to be very first world. But look closer and the area, which is home to IT industries and garment factories, resembles a poor village, with pothole filled roads and garbage strewn around it
Almost every major builder has either completed an apartment complex or has one in progress here
But ask the people what they think of living in Bommanahalli and they point accusing fingers at the BBMP for failing to provide them proper roads, drainage and water supply over the last two years that it has taken over its upkeep. Life for the people here has clearly not got any better after becoming a part of the BBMP
Although the Bommanahalli zone covers over 30 villages, and requires huge funds to provide it the required infrastructure, the BBMP seems to be doing little to meet the needs of the people , who are feeling both neglected and unhappy
Many areas lack proper roads, and storm water drains. Unplanned construction and development has blocked some of the drains leading to flooding of areas like. Akshaynagar, Begur, Chikka Thogur, Dodda and Thogur during the rains
Many of the lakes here holes have been encroached by swanky apartments, which have been built on them, point out the people of Begur, who frequently suffer flooding of their homes
The lakes that do exist are polluted by sewage , which is let into them without treatment. Stray dogs and cows feed on garbage dumped on the roadsides, proving a nuisance to the people
Worse still, the garbage is regularly set on fire, polluting the environment and proving a health hazard
Repeated complaints to the BBMP have fallen on deaf ears, say the residents
Traffic congestion is frequently seen on Bommanahalli Main Road and the delay in completion of the elevated road has not helped matters. The long suffering people are demanding that the BBMP wake up from its slumber and give the area the attention it deserves.
