BANGALORE: One of Jayanagar’s biggest lung spaces in Fifth Block is now home to a “rainwater harvesting theme park”. Spread over 48,000 sq ft. and built at a cost of Rs. 2 crore, this erstwhile green patch of land has been deemed as one of the only such theme parks in the country, promoting rainwater harvesting in a “creative and unique” way.

Inaugurated here on Sunday by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Katta Subramanya Naidu, Minister for Excise, IT/BT and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), the park aims at raising awareness among the people about harvesting rainwater.

Built with assistance from the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, the sprawling park will now be home to different buildings, one of them being an information centre, which will essentially point out the uses of the rainwater harvesting theme park and teach people how to do it themselves.

Models
This park will also hold 26 models of rainwater harvesting, hoping to engage people visually.

A multimedia centre is also in the offing and it will attempt to create a wholesome understanding of rainwater harvesting.

Leaving no stone unturned in the awareness of this subject, a seminar hall, also to be used as an auditorium, will also be part of the theme park. Cultural programmes and plays about rainwater harvesting will be produced for the park so that every person touring this park will have a clear understanding of rainwater harvesting before they leave.
