Underpass thrown open at K R Circle

The long-overdue Maharani underpass (K R Circle) was thrown open for motorists on Sunday.
Inaugurating a series of underpasses, vehicular and pedestrian, apart from a fleet of taxis for the underprivileged, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa appreciated the efforts put in by the outgoing Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner, Dr S Subramanya, who initiated infrastructure projects on a large scale in the City.
Yeddyurappa also welcomed the new Palike Commissioner, Bharat Lal Meena by sending out a strong message of ensuring that developmental projects be the need of the hour.
“I have asked the new commissioner to go on a war footing to complete the existing projects and ensure better transportation facilities for Bangaloreans,” he said.
The controversial underpass on Kantharaj Urs Circle along Seshadri Road that brought to the forefront questions on inter-agency co-operation in the City cost the Palike Rs 4.5 crore and took nearly two months to be completed. The underpass is of a revised size of 6x4.5x1m in each row of 22 RCC box elements.
The CM also officially opened the underpass at the K R Circle Junction allowing free movement of vehicles from Ambedkar Veedhi to Nrupathunga Road. The total cost of this project has been shown at Rs 2.5 crore by BBMP.
With the road-widening of Seshadri Road also complete, the infrastructure development along this stretch according to BBMP will ensure travelling time of only 10 minutes from Majestic to K R Circle.
