Land acquisition for work not completed
MYSORE: Mandya MP N. Cheluvarayaswamy, who accompanied the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy during their meeting with Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in New Delhi, is confident of getting priority for track-doubling work between Ramanagara and Mysore as part of Bangalore-Mysore line, in the coming railway budget.
More funds
The Railway Minister has promised to look into the demand for allocating more funds for completing the doubling work, which would ease traffic on the Bangalore-Mysore line.
Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy told presspersons in Mandya recently that the track-doubling work would push growth in the corridor.
The track-doubling work between Mysore and Bangalore has received administrative sanction in the Railway Budget in 2007 and it was expected to be completed by March 2011.
Demand
Although the work is complete till Bidadi and is under way towards Ramanagara, there is growing demand from the public that the work should be taken up from both ends.
However, additional land is required between Mandya and Pandavapura to re-align the existing track, which has too many curves.
The purpose of track doubling will not be served if the lines are not straightened to facilitate faster movement of trains which is not possible at present, especially between Pandavapura and Byadarahalli.
The existing track is said to have a 12 degree curvature as a result of which the maximum permissible speed on the stretch between Srirangapatna and Byadarahalli has been set at 30 km an hour.
Land acquisition
Land has to be acquired between Srirangapatna and Mysore to take up track doubling between the two cities expeditiously.
The railway authorities are pursuing the matter with deputy commissioners of Mysore and Mandya to identify land for acquisition.
