The Banyan tree park in Basaveshwara Nagar is all set to get back its past glory. The park had lost its attraction after the centuries-old banyan tree, which offered the name to the park, fell down on May 14. Now, the park is getting a new banyan tree.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar, who has been a regular visitor to the park since his childhood days, took special interest to bring back the past glory to the park. He asked his party workers to search for a banyan tree which can be transplanted at the site where the centuries-old tree stood.
The party workers found a banyan tree near Kengeri, which was uprooted due to the on-going Metro work. Roots of the tree were not damaged. The minister has decided to transplant the same in the Banyan Tree park. The transplantation will be done on June 17.
Suresh Kumar, in his blog, has expressed how he and many morning walkers of the locality were attached to the tree. The minister had visited the park when the tree collapsed. He had observed a silence along with the walkers in the park as a mark of respect to the tree.
