Airport area green belt reduced Govt to reply

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: The high court on Monday asked the government and Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) to file a statement of objections to a petition challenging the 2021 masterplan notification of the Bengaluru International Airport Area Planning Authority.
Of the 79,200 hectares under the plan, there is a considerable jump (about 3,000 hectares) in land allocated for residential purposes. On the contrary, the green belt has been reduced by 14,000 hectares. There is a disparity between the preliminary and final notifications. Even for roads, the land has been allocated without conducting any traffic study. The environmental impact study and issue of public notice were not undertaken. This is against guidelines laid down by the government in November 2005. There is total non-application of mind, petitioners D N Satish and others have stated in the petition.
