Engineers must be accountable

Bangalore: The BBMP has set up a new centralized control room and computerized grievance redressal mechanism. Simply put, people can now call 22660000 and register their complaints on civic issues.
The centralized control room will cover eight zones that come under its jurisdiction . Further, it has a wireless network 650 officials have wireless sets to communicate with the control room and with other officials in their respective zones.
The control room wireless network will be a 24x7 set-up . According to the BBMP, it will try and act as an effective mechanism of communication, to network at times of disaster management and to facilitate redressal of public grievances.

Bangalore Central MP P C Mohan wants BBMP officials to prepare a bar chart where every pending project is shown from the time when work will begin to the estimated date of completion.
He held a review meeting of developmental work in his constituency with BBMP officials on Monday. Mohan regretted that only 10% of work has been completed. The main complaints are about bad roads, silt not being removed and faulty water supply, he pointed out. Executive engineers gave the MP an update of all pending works in their areas. They were told to identify critical areas for de-silting , hire people and remove encroachments . In case of flooding, engineers should be held responsible , Mohan said.


REVIEW TIME


It was time to review and plan new development projects with deadlines. Law and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Kumar met BBMP commissioner Bharat Lal Meena on Tuesday to review the progress of work under progress and discuss new projects. With tendering process for the Rajajinagar corridor complete, ground work is expected to start in August first week. The deadline: six months.

In the pipeline


Eight-lane corridor from Okalipuram junction to Fountain Circle in Rajajinagar. This project worth Rs 49 crore will include one flyover, an underpass and surface road along the stretch
Rajkumar Road to be made signal-free corridor in a project worth Rs 40 crore
West of Chord Road to have four underpasses for Rs 50 crore. This will include Manjunathnagar junction, Shivnagar I Main Road and 8th Main Road junction and Basaveshwarnagar I Main
Flyover at Vivekananada Circle towards Mysore Road
