Phase two of the Bangalore Metro Rail project will cover an approximate area of 125 km and could extend upto Whitefield and Kengeri, said Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director N Sivasailam here.

Making a presentation on the project at the FICCI-Malaysia India Business Council (MIBC) Real Estate and Infrastructure Forum here on Friday, he said the ‘Detailed Project Report’ (DPR) being prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation would be submitted in August/September.

“The traffic density, environment and topographic study is being conducted at present. While Phase One of ‘Namma Metro’ covers an area of 42 km, Phase Two could be three times larger at 125 km. However, the final areas to be included in Phase Two is being considered,” Sivasailam said.

BMRCL officials say in Phase Two, the alignment could be extended on corridors upto Kengeri from Mysore Road, Byappanahalli to Whitefield and Katriguppe and even to Yelahanka from IIMB on Bannerghatta Road. Currently, these routes have been identified in a draft plan prepared pending further studies, viz., traffic density and topography.
