Protect trees in Lalbagh, demands Hasiru Usiru

Hasiru Usiru had earlier lodged a complaint with Siddapura police against 'Namma Metro' authorities on Monday, for tree-felling activities.

Hasiru Usiru, the green NGO has made a representation to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South, Krishna Bhat and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Jayanagar, Ramesh Chandra on Tuesday, to protect public property and trees, from what it termed as illegal activities.

Hasiru Usiru had earlier lodged a complaint with Siddapura police against ‘Namma Metro’ authorities on Monday, for tree-felling activities.

In a press statement, the NGO said, “To ensure that law and order is maintained, especially given the contentious nature of the issue, the police have promised that the Metro authorities will not implement any part of the Southern reach of the project that involves destruction of Lalbagh and Lakshman Rao park, till such time the Metro authorities provide documents to demonstrate the legality of their activities.”


The NGO said in the light of these issues, it was surprising that the chief minister was intent on pushing ahead with the southern reach of the Metro, despite such major illegalities.

Project demand

When asked about the protests of environmentalists against the cutting of trees in Lalbagh , the CM said, “Metro Rail is necessary. We don’t have any other alternatives. We have to fell trees if the project demands so.”

Yeddyurappa again hinted that the government may consider increasing and reviewing the boundaries of the BBMP wards. “We are still discussing it. But we will hold the elections in time. We are firm about it (BBMP elections),” the CM said.
