Pipe leak leaves Bellary Road traffic crawling

Motorists driving towards Cauvery Junction had a harrowing time on Bellary Road owing to a water pipeline leakage at the intersection. There was a huge traffic jam and people were stuck at least for half an hour on Mekhri Circle, Bellary Road, Sadashivanagar and Cauvery Junction. People travelling from the airport to the city were also forced to wait for long. Traffic moved at snail's pace on these roads between 11am and 6pm.
"I had to wait for half an hour to begin from the Mekhri Circle. I reached my office an hour late," said Raghu M, a motorist. He added that at the junction there were only two traffic policemen who were busy watching the leakage.
A Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) official said that the water leakage was detected on Wednesday afternoon. "The water leakage was traced to a 600mm diameter pipeline, the joint of which was broken. We could not take the JCB to that spot. Since the pipeline is 1.2 m below the surface, it had to be manually dug out. Hence, it took a long time. We will finish the work by 6 pm," said the official.
