“Once the underpass on Seshadri Road near Maharani’s College is ready, twoway traffic will be allowed on Palace Road from Mysore Bank to Maharani’s College junction,” assures BBMP chief engineer T.N.Chikkarayappa.
Forty four pre- cast magic box elements have been installed on Palace Road to facilitate two-way traffic.
After analyzing the traffic condtions, BBMP plans to make Seshadri Road a two way as well.
There's more! Commuters can now look forward to signal-free traffic movement from Mysore Bank to ffic w Chalukya Hotel on Race Course Road and from Seshadri Road to KR Circle.
Vehicles plying from Chalukya Hotel will be able to take a free left turn towards KR Circle.
The Rs 4.5 crore underpass has been built to improve traffic conditions in areas surrounding the Vidhana Soudha and the Multi-Storied building.
The BBMP hopes it will prevent traffic congestion by at least 50 per cent in the area.
Currently the Seshadri Road is being asphalted from Freedom Park to KR Circle and the blacktopping will be completed in a couple of days.
Approach ramps on either woes side of the underpass on Palace Road have already been built. These will be thrown open to the public after approval from the government.
The chief engineer explains that the work was delayed due to shifting of utilities and the discovery of hard rock on Palace Road near the Corps of Detectives (CoD) office during excavation to build the ramp.
Removing the rocks with controlled blasting took time, he says.
“A little work is pending between the General Hostel and Mysore Circle. Also the debris left after the work is completed needs to be cleared.” Mr Chikkarayappa explains.
