Rain brings down trees, temperature

BANGALORE: With the election fever coming down, the city too cooled down. After an unusually hot summer, pre-monsoon showers in the afternoon and evening brought the mercury level down on Sunday.
“The city received 16.2 mm rainfall till 8.30 pm on Sunday and is expected to receive more rain on Monday,” said A Muthuchami, director, Meteorological Department.
“HAL airport recorded 20 mm rainfall on Monday. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 32 degree Celsius on Monday,” he added.
“The rain in the city on Sunday was a pre-monsoon shower,” said M B Raje Gowda, professor of Agro-Meteorology, University of Agricultural Sciences.
Pre-monsoon showers will continue till the end of this month after which the state will receive the South West Monsoon, he said.
“Karnataka gets around 40 mm of rainfall before the monsoon sets in. The rainfall is usually higher in the southern parts of the State,” he added.
6 trees fall; one on a car The Sunday showers not only brought down the mercury, but trees too. According to reports, at least six trees fell in HMT Layout in Vidyaranyapura, West of Chord Road, Mahalakshmipuram, BM Circle, KR Puram and Basavanagudi. In Basavanagudi, a car was damaged after a tree fell on it. However, no one was injured.
