Plans on the anvil to decongest Majestic

Plans on the anvil to decongest Majestic

MK Madhusoodan. Bangalore

With congested roads reducing traffic movement to a crawl, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) plans several infrastructure projects to ease traffic flow.
Most of these projects will come up around the Majestic area, where the Kempe Gowda Bus Terminus as well as the City railway station witness movement of about three lakh people each day, on an average. The area is part of the busy central business district (CBD). These projects are expected to ease congestion in the central parts and will facilitate smooth movement of traffic towards the west of the city.
Most of the projects will be underpasses, varying in length from 6 to 7.5 metres, with a breadth of 4.5 metres, Chikkarayappa, Chief Engineer (Major Roads), BBMP told DNA. The BBMP will take up simultaneously the underpass at Ananda Rao circle, which will cross the flyover at this junction. The underpass will open for one-way traffic on Subedar Chatram Road, so that traffic flows smoothly from the Sheshadripuram Road towards Majestic Circle.
Another ambitious project will come up around the Fountain Circle (known as Khoday circle) in front of the Divisional Railway Manager's (DRM) office. This will ease traffic movement to and from Okalipuram. Traffic from the Okalipuram side will also have another magic box-type connection to aid flow of vehicles towards Ananda Rao Circle; this will be used by BMTC buses plying towards Kempe Gowda bus station.
