Buy one ticket, travel in and around city

Bangalore: Just one ticket can take you in and around Bangalore: a single-ticket system is being introduced to ease the journey of thousands of bus commuters. But it is a one-way ticket.
“The new system will help commuters, particularly from Ramanagaram, Channapattana, Kanakapura, Devanahalli, Hoskote, Doddaballapura and Tumkur to travel with a single ticket,’’ transport minister R Ashok said here on Thursday.
Soon after the launch of the Metro, he said the system will be extended to all public transport services on the lines of London’s Oyster Card — a form of electronic ticketing used on all public transport modes within the Greater London area.
Elaborating on the new system, Ashok said commuters from neighbouring districts need not rely on bus passes if they have to travel daily. The ticket they purchase while boarding a KSRTC bus can be used to travel in BMTC buses too. But this will not apply to Volvo buses, he added quickly.
However, he said there will be a marginal hike in the ticket price once the one-ticket system is introduced. Citing an example, he said: “As of now, KSRTC charges Rs 60 to travel from Channapattana to Bangalore. Further, BMTC charges Rs 30 for the daily pass to travel within Bangalore. Under the new system, we plan to fix the fare at Rs 70.” But the commuter will have to buy return ticket to Channapattana.
SMS TO TRACE RASH DRIVERS
The transport department has introduced a computerized response system through which people or victims can get details about rash and negligent drivers. “If people witness rash driving or an accident, they just need to SMS the speeding vehicle number to 56006 to get the name and address of the driver or vehicle. The SMS will be charged Rs 2,” Ashok informed.
MYSORE TO GET 30 VOLVOS
After the good response to Volvo service in Mysore, the state has decided to extend it by a fleet of 30 buses next month.
