Bangalore: A gang of robbers was arrested who would pick up unsuspecting commuters at night on Outer Ring Road near HSR Layout, rob them and flee.
On January 20, Nasser, a painter from Uttar Pradesh, was murdered by the fourmember gang. When he was walking home near Bellandur, they tried to snatch his mobile phone, and stabbed him with a knife when tried to fight back.
The gang was also involved in several cab robberies — they would pick up hapless commuters at night and snatch their valuables, take their debit cards and withdraw money after forcibly taking the personal identification number.
HSR Layout inspector Rajesh said they had no clue to the murder, but investigation into habitual offenders in the locality gave them a lead. They arrested Sathish, 20, Shankar, 21, and Ranga from Madiwala and Muruga, 26, from Mylapura.
During interrogation, police realized the accused were involved in over nine cases in various police stations. Gold chains, wrist watches and mobile phones worth Rs 1.5 lakh were recovered.
