No scams, airport is working well: BIAL

DNA NEWS. Bangalore

The Bangalore International Airport (BIA) said it had responded well to the questions posed by the Joint House committee constituted to look into the alleged inadequate facilities at the airport.
The BIA officials, responding to allegations made by the committee on inadequate facilities at the airport, told DNA that they had responded to all the questions raised during the 11 meetings. They said they had cooperated with the committee by giving the information the panel sought.
"If there is any specific question or letter or meeting not attended to by BIAL's CEO or CIO or COO and other senior officials, please let us know," a BIA official said.
The joint house committee on Monday said that they found something fishy behind the installation of the airport and the services being offered there.
The chairman of the committee and MLA Hemachandra Sagar sought six months' time from the government to submit the report.
The committee members also expressed their unhappiness over the "non co-operation" by BIA officials. A member said officials of the BIA were not cooperating with them when they were called for meetings. Another member said BIA was just a functional airport and the facilities there did not meet international standards. The committee even listed complaints from people on the facilities at BIA. In a mail sent to DNA, BIA officials said the committee members were invited to the airport on October 31, 2008 and had gone through all the details concerning passenger amenities.
"These include, seating, facilities for differently-abled, and lounges. A detailed document with added amenities was shared and presented to the joint house committee," the release said. Reacting to the report that the commitee suspected a scam behind land purchase, the officials said the land acquisition for the airport was done by Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation, which was set up by the state government.
