WHAT’S THE FUSS ABOUT V-DAY?

WHAT’S THE FUSS ABOUT V-DAY?
Senes ready for war of love
B K Ganesh | TNN

Bangalore: Saturday, February 14, will be a day to watch out for, as Sene takes on Sene. While the Sri Rama Sene moral police roam the city with turmeric stubs and rakhis on Valentine’s Day, Karunada Sene volunteers will roam around with red roses. If the moral police try to interfere and disrupt celebrations, the Karunada Sene will throw away the roses and bundle out Mutalik’s men like “street dogs”, Agni Sridhar warned Rashtriya Hindu Sena chief Pramod Mutalik, in an interview with The Times of India on Friday.
“Who has given them the right to interfere? We will stand like a rock for young couples. Come, let us love and live,” Sridhar said.
Will you support women visiting pubs or only condemn the attack against them? It’s immaterial now whether women visiting pubs is right or wrong. The Sene could have protested in a softer manner. How can they take the law into their hands?
Are you not taking the law into your hands when you warn them that you will bundle them out like street dogs?
We are binding on our words. We will counter whoever obstructs the peaceful celebration of love, and attacks and molests in the name of culture. We have all right to do that. The law permits it. If they won’t respect the law and police, why should we? We cannot sit and watch people being attacked. Even Gandhiji said: ‘Teach a lesson to those who attack women, especially your family members.’ We are not going to run away.
Is it going to be a street fight? Is it our culture?
This is not a problem created by us. The Raitha Sangha, Dalita Sangharsha Samithi and other progressive groups will get together and form a strategy to counter the Sri Rame Sene. We will give our contact numbers. We will rush help to anyone who faces any problem, and hand them to the police. We will celebrate Valentine’s Day at MG Road. We will call all college students to come and celebrate, offer free roses, let them give the roses to anybody they love. We are ready for everything. Love is not related to sex. If anyone thinks on these lines, they are psychos. Saying that two people who love each other should marry is sheer stupidity.
What do you say about western culture?
Who are they to decide on culture? Don’t they read Shakespeare? Why do they take a holiday on Sunday? Don’t western countries accept Hinduism? Buddhism is discussed more in other countries than in India. We have to think in a wider perspective and respect all cultures.
What about this underworld talk?
Rubbish. If Mutalik has the guts, let him touch the people of Ravi Poojari or Muthappa Rai in Mangalore.
