305 new properties notified for acquisition

BANGALORE: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has notified 305 new properties for acquisition for the extension of its north-south corridor.

through a Karnataka Gazette dated January 21, 2009, these properties covering a total area of 1,54,435.443 square metres have been notified for acquisition. properties would be acquired to construct the recently-approved extensions of the north corridor from Yeshwantpur to Hesaraghatta and of the south corridor from Road to Puttenahalli Cross.

the Empowered Ggroup of Ministers, Ggovernment of India, accorded its approval to the extension on January 30, 2009, after the approval from the state cabinet for the same. In October, the state government had issued an order approving 8.7 km extension of the corridor at both ends. On January 2, 2009, another extension of 0.6 km at the southern end from Jarganahalli to Puttenahalli was approved.

t he 5.6 km long northern extension, at an estimated cost of Rrs 1,082 crore, would add six new stations to the earlier approved Reach III extension (Swastik to Yeshwantpur).

Tthe 3.7-km-long southern extension would add three new stations to the earlier approved IV (City Market to RrV Rroad), at an estimated cost of 681 crore.

t he original cost of the project (excluding extensions) was estimated to be 6,395 crore which could now escalate to 8,500 crore (excluding extensions) during the construction period.

t he extension has added 9.3 km and nine stations to the original 33 km, 32 station plan in Phase I, making the total network 42.3 km long with 41 stations. Tthese extensions are part of phase I of the metro rail project.
